MLRC Employment Opportunities

The Media Law Resource Center (MLRC) is a nonprofit, membership organization located in New York City, specializing in media and First Amendment law. MLRC does not itself engage in litigation, but serves as a resource center for its members, who include most major publishers, newspapers and television networks, as well as the law firms that defend the media. MLRC closely monitors developments and trends in the areas of free speech, libel, privacy and the rights of journalists and reports on these developments in a variety of publications. MLRC also gives its members litigation resources, such as model briefs, jury instructions and expert witness information.
MLRC Fellowship
The MLRC Fellowship offers a recent law school graduate the opportunity to spend a year focusing on media law and policy issues, working closely with MLRC's lawyers and members. The MLRC Fellow is responsible for tracking media law, policy and business developments for MLRC’s MediaLawDaily; researching and writing articles for the monthly MediaLawLetter, tracking cases for MLRC's annual Supreme Court review; assisting in responding to inquiries from lawyers and journalists, and developing and contributing to specific First Amendment research and/or writing projects.
The MLRC Fellowship begins in September for a period of one year. The Fellowship salary is $35,000. Please note that the MLRC Fellowship position for the 2009-10 year has been filled and applications for 2010-11 will be accepted starting December 2009.

MLRC Internship Opportunities
The Media Law Resource Center accepts applications for its fall, spring and summer internship programs on an ongoing basis. The fall and spring semester internships require students to be available a minimum of 6 hours per week. The position is unpaid, but students may be able to arrange to receive academic credit for their work. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
MLRC’s summer internship program offers full-time, paid positions. The summer internship generally commences after Memorial Day and runs until early August. Applications are accepted beginning in November. Among other things, interns contribute to MLRC’s research, writing and education projects, including MLRC's MediaLawLetter, MediaLawDaily and Bulletin. Summer interns also collect and help to analyze data for empirical studies on media law issues. Summer interns also meet with MLRC's New York-based Directors for a series of summer luncheons highlighting the professional media law landscape.
