MLRC produces a variety of publications focused on different practical and theoretical aspects of media and First Amendment law. These publications are written by practitioners -- MLRC members -- for practitioners.
MLRC MediaLawLetter
Published monthly as a service to MLRC members, the MediaLawLetter is designed to keep members informed of current developments in media libel, privacy, and related law. Each issue contains summaries of newly issued decisions and statutory developments.
MLRC MediaLawDaily
The MLRC MediaLawDaily is a electronic newsletter sent via e-mail each workday which includes links to the day's news regarding media law issues and developments. It is available to Media Members and Enhanced Defense Counsel Section Members only; it is not available to other members or non-members.
MLRC Bulletin
Published quarterly, the MLRC Bulletin is a sophisticated and practical resource for media law practitioners and scholars alike. It is often cited by lawyers, jurists, and academics, and helps set the agenda for First Amendment activists throughout the country. The Bulletin is written and edited by MLRC staff and other noted media lawyers and First Amendment scholars.
Articles and Reports
MLRC publishes numerous articles and reports for members, some of which are also available to the public. The product of MLRC Committees or individuals, these publications are resources on libel, privacy, intellectual property, and other areas of law and practice of relevance to media and its counsel.
Trial Tales
Since 1991, "Tom Kelly's Trial Tales," compiling information on media trials from the attorneys involved, has been a highlight of the Biennial National Conference. In addition to his panel presentation of attorneys who have recently tried cases, Tom also prepares a written report on these trials, which are collected on here.
MLRC 50-State Surveys
Updated and published annually, the MLRC 50-State Surveys are easy-to-use compendiums of the law in all U.S. jurisdictions, state and federal, that are used by journalists, lawyers and judges, and law schools nationwide. Each state’s chapter, prepared by experts in that jurisdiction, is presented in a uniform outline format.
